Classic closet staples are everywhere for 2024. The amazing news is that if you don’t have some of them in your wardrobe already, investing in them now will benefit your current outfit choices as well as help you in the years to come.
Our buyers predicted the popularity of everyday essentials like crisp button-ups, traditional cut denim, and notable knitwear when they hit up NYC for market in the fall of 2023. From Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy to Gwyneth Paltrow to Kate Middleton, these are fashion icons that love a solid, updated classic. We are loving how designers took traditional dressing and made their line choices updated and fabulous…most certainly not outdated and dull.
For starters, “quiet luxury” is an overarching theme for the season we are in. The term simply refers to understated luxury that truly speaks for itself (think the OPPOSITE of big brand logos). Quiet luxury is that fashionable female who walks into a room wrapped in refined taste….something is just different about her and what she wears. One might have even heard this term associated with the concept of “old money”. While money cannot buy taste, it can help purchase items that reflect solid investments and traditional style aesthetics. This GOOD fashion is what we are seeing and it’s certainly a trend worth acquiring.
A HUGE nautical nod is prevalent this season. Montauk-inspired garments are popping up everywhere for spring, and there is certainly multiple options made just for you. Traditional hues of red, blue, and white are taking center stage via sweaters and blouses, alike. Stripes and oversized collars also hone in on this trend. When paired with a trench and crisp white denim, this is a look that withstands the test of time.
Moving on….cardigans and feminine basics are also big for spring. Ladylike details that channel Jackie O are being paired with tailored denim in prim and proper lengths. With a low kitten heel or ballet flat, this is a winning combination.
In addition, classic “prep school” attire is another avenue we are seeing designers take. Popping a button down under a vest is a conservative, yet chic, look that gives us English royalty feels. Lightweight blazers are trending for 2024, too!
Basics are smart to keep on hand this season as well. The combination of a traditionally-cut tee with a indigo denim wash is an Americana look to always keep in your back pocket. French Connection and COH always produce great button downs that go with anything at anytime. Topping either a tee or a blouse with a jacket or blazer and paired with tennies equates to casual perfectionism.
