Memorial Day is right around the corner.  Where the spring went….we simply do not know!

Whether you are off to the lake with friends or gathering for quality time with the fam, you might as well know why the celebrating is worth it! In the excitement of a 3-day weekend, cookouts, parades, and summer being so near, it’s easy to ignore or forget about the true meaning of Memorial Day. The following are some fun little tidbits about the history behind this annual holiday.

Memorial Day FYI

  • Memorial Day was originally intended to honor soldiers who had fallen during the Civil War. After World War I, it expanded to honor soldiers who had fallen in any American war.
  • Memorial Day is celebrated every year on the last Monday in May.
  • Memorial Day was not an official holiday until 1968!
  • There is evidently a special way to raise the flag on Memorial Day (who knew?!). The proper way to raise the flag on Memorial day is to first raise it quickly to the top of the pole.  Then, slowly lower it to half-mast until noon, and then back to the top for the rest of the day.

Now that you know why you are ready to honor our country, why not do so with patriotic style.  With the 4th of July and Labor Day soon to follow, updating your red, white, and blue wardrobe is so easy with our USA-inspo inventory.  If a casual vibe is what you are going for, try pairing our vintage gray USA tee with some crisp white shorts.  Show Me Your Mumu has some fab sweater options to pair with our solid denim collection.  For a dressier Memorial Day to-do, our Zoe Zip dress or Emily McCarthy’s Frankie dress will have you fireworks ready with ease!

You have the background.  You have the fashion suggestions.  The rest, as they say, is up to you!
