Filling time in the winter season can get repetitive and dull quickly. With frigid temperatures awaiting outside, the desire to stay cozied up grows. But staying cozy should also be fun, especially during the shorter and colder days of the year. With that said, below is a list of ways to fill said time, alone, with friends or partners, or as a family, for when the urge to do something is overwhelming.
Create a vision board or bucket list for the new year ahead!
Learn a new skill or take up a hobby to fill the time. (Knitting, sourdough, sewing, puzzles, reading, baking, painting, pottery, crochet, etc.)
Visit local breweries, restaurants, shows, museums, and cafes to create new memories, support your local community, and stay in a warmer environment no matter the elements awaiting outside.
Sled, build snowmen, or create snow angels on a snowy day! Bonus points for any snowcream made.
Have a movie day accompanied by a fort, snacks, and drinks that complement the viewing line-up, and good company to share with!
Bake a new recipe; really test your baking skills with this one.
Take on writing in any form. A short story, a biography, a poem, a research paper, or even start outlining a book.
Find a new research project to fill the time: Where did our holidays originate from, and how did they change over time?
Play a card or board game. Better yet, create your own to then share!
Have a karaoke night with a random playlist.
Themed dress-up dinners are always fun to host and attend, especially when there is not much else going on. Also, a great way to have fun as a family with little ones!
